This is my connection
This is what I want to grow
This is my investment
I first met Hannah around 15 years ago through dear friends in the Boulder Jewish community. I’ll never forget a walk we took together along the creek, where she gently and generously counseled me around my yearning to someday become a rabbi. Since then, I had often hoped for the opportunity to get to know her better and to learn from her in a meaningful way.
When I heard about Rahmana many years later, I was deeply excited. I remember attending Sukkot at Hannah’s house — and although I had driven down all the way from Longmont, I had a moment of almost not getting out of my car to come in. I wasn’t sure what to expect, and I had some social anxiety. As a queer person, I’ve had mixed experiences in women’s spaces. And as a multidimensional, mixed-denominational Jew, I never quite know whether I’ll feel a sense of full belonging in a Jewish space or not.
Thank God I went in, because what I found was the most hamische, congruent, spiritually nourishing, respectful, authentic, emotionally and intellectually intelligent Jewish community I have encountered in my life. (And I have spent time in a lot of Jewish communities!)
Since then, Rahmana has become a very important part of my life. I cherish the deep and caring friendships I have made here. I have grown as a person here, and as a Jew. And over time, I have come to help Rahmana in any way I could, to strengthen who we are as a community and to envision who we are becoming.
I am invested in our beautiful community continuing to gather for learning, prayer, and spiritual nourishment. I am invested in carrying forward boundaries, sensitivity, and a sense of place that sustains us - both by supporting Hannah and by supporting each of you.
Any knowledge I have acquired from the past decade as a nonprofit director, psychotherapist, writer, professor and ritual leader, I am here to share — only in ways that might hold and sustain what we have already grown together, guided always by Hannah’s vision and teaching.
