Opening Prayer: The Poetry of the First Three Blessings
November 6, 13, 20 | 7-9pm
What becomes possible when we know the intention of the poets who crafted our liturgy?Join us as we look at the poetry of the first three blessings of the Amidah - the central Jewish prayer. We will explore the contemporary liturgy, ancient versions of it, and the referenced biblical intertexts - the biblical stories and concepts invoked - to deepen our connection with prayer and its purpose. After exploring the text and context of each blessing, we will each craft our own prayer pages, making art alongside the text of the blessing. These may contribute one day to a Rahmana siddur!
This class is a 3-part series, offered in the fall and the spring.
